Lets’s face it folks, Tech Manufacturers make Tech for a living. They make screens, Operating Systems, Processors and little buttons and stuff but where they fall down all to often is when they name there Tech Gear. So, here are the Top 5 Stupidest names for Tech Products in Recent Memory.
Number 5 – Cool-er/ Cuil
This is a tie between two products that violate the very first rule of the room. Never call yourself cool (unless u rap for a living) but the Cool-er E-Reader and Cuil the search engine missed that lesson. The Cool-er Reader just wasn’t. It was a second rate, half baked cut price rip off of both the kindle and the iPod. So, it has the “unoriginaler” name that it could have claimed. Now Cuil was a search engine claimed to do what Google does but faster & better. The Name was very confusing as no one knew exactly what is the correct pronunciation and it needed defiantly a pronouncer.
Number 4 – Samsung Smiley 🙂
This is the Samsung smiley 🙂 . You know smiley. They branded it with both the word and the emoticon and tried to position as the happy phone asking what about it will make you happy. You what will make me happy, this thing going off the market.
Number 3 – Pentax *ist
This is the Pentax *ist pronounced ist but with a leading asterisk(*). The Idea was sort of this is the DSLR for whatever your passions are either you are an artist, botanist, naturist or anesthesiologist which works because they put this line to sleep in late 2006.
Number 2 – Olympus m:robe
It was a line of portable audio and video players. The Name supposedly a contraction of music wardrobe. That’s idiotic. And it used a kind of file transfer called m:trip which actually made Sony SonicStagelook good. But Olympus is blessedly out of the media player business now.
Exception
Before we go to the number 1 worst named tech product a reminder, a bad name does not keep a good product down.
You recall the groaning, when Jobs announced iPad.
Also, we all had our jaws in our laps when nintendo announced Wii.
And can there be a dorkier, geekier name than Android.
Number 1 – iBeat Blaxx
The iBeat Blaxx has to be the Number 1 worst named tech product hands down, no exceptions for the remainder of History. The makers TrekStor are a small company located in Lorsch, Germany(Well known as the Silicon Valley of the former Third Reich). Anyway, they were genuinely horrified when someone who has actually heard english spoken explained to them when what they had actually called there Product. So, they fired there VP of Brand Development and soldiered on with a name change with only moderately disturbing TrekStor Blaxx.
